About The Local Life List
The Local Life List is an independent editorial project focused on everyday places and the people behind them across Medway.
Rooted in the towns of Rochester, Chatham, Gillingham, Rainham, Strood, and the surrounding villages, the site documents local life through places, conversations and quiet observations. From independent shops and cafés to walks, neighbourhoods, the makers, business owners, and individuals who shape them. Set between the North Downs and the Thames Estuary, Medway is a place of contrast: river and countryside, industry and heritage and high streets that change block by block.
Our Mission
We’re interested in how places (and the people connected to them) reveal themselves through return visits rather than in trends, rankings, or fast recommendations. The Local Life List celebrates independence, craftsmanship, hospitality, and the small rituals that give an area its character.
Our Approach
Everything featured on The Local Life List is handpicked. There are no paid rankings, sponsored reviews, or generic endorsements. What you’ll find instead is thoughtful, place-led writing (sometimes observational, sometimes conversational) rooted in lived experience and genuine curiosity about local work, creativity, and community.
We believe Medway is a place worth exploring slowly, listening to carefully, supporting proudly, and returning to often.
Work With Us
If you think a place, person, or project belongs here — or you’re interested in thoughtful partnerships, interviews, or collaborations — we’d love to hear from you.
